Mumbai, Jan. 5 — The Shiv Sena, on Monday, taunted ally BJP after some of its leaders threatened a violent attack on Marathi author Shripal Sabnis for remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Surprisingly, the Sena backed Modi against the allegations but issued veiled taunts to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis over ensuring Sabnis’s safety.
The editorial in the Sena mouthpiece Saamna defended Modi and criticised Sabnis for his remarks, saying his remarks were unbecoming of an author and sounded more like that of a politician. Reminding the BJP of its commitment to protect former Pakistan foreign affairs minister KM Kasuri and Pakistani singer Ghulam Ali, the Sena said it was Fadnavis’s responsibility to protect Sabnis’s life, even if he had criticised Modi. “A few weeks ago, when we carried out agitations against Kasuri and Ali, the BJP government was gung-ho about protecting them, even though they are the nation’s enemies.”
